Second Feature Win

May 17, 2008; Columbus, WI. - Fort
Atkinson's Ron Bishofberger took the lead with ten laps to go on his
way to winning his second 35 lap late model feature event of the
season. Starting alongside Delbert Desjarles on the front row, Tylor
Schultz grabbed the early lead on the opening lap exiting turn two.
The inside line followed Schultz under Desjarles with Steve
Schlosser moving into second and Al Weishoff in third.
The first of multiple cautions flew on lap 13 when Andy Wendt and
Jerry Eckhart tangled in turns three and four. After the restart,
Schultz watched Schlosser and Weishoff battle for second in his
rearview mirror as he pulled out to a sizeable lead. On lap 18,
Weishoff cleared for second with Bishofberger sliding into third.
Bishofberger used the restart after another caution to move around
Weishoff for second and begin to challenge Schultz for the top spot.
On lap 25, Schultz got loose exiting turn two and slid up the
track allowing Bishofberger to charge by on the inside to take the
lead. Bishofberger immediately began to pull away from the pack, but
another caution on lap 33 erased his lead
and set up a green/white/checker finish. But Bishofberger survived
the restart to take the checkers for the second time in the young
season. Rounding out the top five were Eckhart, Wendt, Justin
Schultz
and Aaron Wilke.
Wilke also set the pace in qualifying with a lap of 13.379 while
heat winners included Desjarles and Tylor Schultz.
Scott Reidner of Waunakee laid claim to his first feature win of
the 2008 season in an exciting finish to the 30 lap sportsman
feature event. Tiffany Desjarles took the lead after a brief battle
with fellow front row starter Ed Jackson with Dale Weatherwax
following into second. By lap five, Riedner was already threatening
to move into the top five, doing so a lap later. Lap eight saw the
leaders begin to bunch up behind Desjarles the leader. Weatherwax
was taking a look to the outside of the leader while Dan Gosda was
peeking to the inside.
On lap 17, Gosda and Desjarles made contact entering turn one and
the two spun to bring out the caution. Weatherwax inherited the lead
with Riedner on his rear bumper, looking for a way to get by. After
another caution, Kevin Anderson joined the fight for the lead,
making it a three way battle. With five laps remaining, Weatherwax
floated high out of turn two and Riedner went low while Anderson
went high. The three competitors drove three wide into turn three
with Riedner coming up on top and Weatherwax sliding back into the
pack. Riedner cruised to the line to take the win followed by Tony
Showers, Anderson, Dennis Schwark and Jake Wasserburger. In
qualifying, Bret Schmidt set a new track record with a lap of
13.733. Heat winners included Weatherwax and Brandon Riedner.
Waunakee's Kyle Riedner lead every lap of the hobby stock feature
on his way to his first career win in the division. Riedner took the
lead on the first lap with Andy Raley following into second. Riedner
opened up a healthy advantage until caution flew on lap 11, erasing
his lead. But after the restart, Riedner again moved out to a
comfortable lead as he raced to the checkers. Rounding out the top
five were Raley, Dustin Ward, Gary Pashley and Lincoln Keeser. Larry
Moen owned quick time with a 15.237 second tour of the quarter mile
while Pashley won the heat race.
Kyle Padfield of Stoughton took the win in the 18 lap bandit
feature event. Daniel Ellis took the initial lead on the first lap
as things behind him began to heat up immediately. Mike Waddell,
Jimmy Junget and Michael Clapper battled each other for second until
lap seven when Waddell and Clapper made contact, bringing out the
caution and sending the two to the rear. Junget lined up in second
with Padfield third for the restart.
As the green returned, Ellis floated way high in turn two
allowing Junget and Padfield past. Padfield grabbed the lead
on lap ten as Chester Ace joined the fray. Ace moved into second,
but Padfield proved to be too strong as he flew to the checkers with
Ace coming home second. Steve Privett, Junget and David Schmidt
rounded out the top five.
Ace also claimed quick time while heat winners were Padfield,
Junget and Michael Heimann.
In wild and crazy back up action, Brodhead's Ryan Oetzel claimed
the 8 lap feature event. Oetzel took the lead from Wayne Hook on lap
two and never looked back, surviving two separate challenges from
George Wachuta and Andy Ward. Oetzel took the win followed across
the line by Ward in second and Wachuta in third.
Next week, May 23, is full program in all five divisions
including a visit from the Midwest Stock Car Classics. Time trials
begin at 6:30 with racing at 8 pm.
