July 18, 2008; Columbus, WI. -
Don Gaserude of Fort Atkinson sliced his way to the front of 35 lap
Late Model feature on his way to the win on Friday night at Columbus
151 Speedway. Mike Taylor and Steve Schlosser made up row one at the
start with Taylor taking the early lead as the inside lane followed
him under Schlosser.
Delbert Desjarles moved into second with Tylor Schultz third and
Gaserude running in the fourth position. The top five ran nose to
tail until Gaserude began to make his move on lap 20. Gaserude went
to the high side of Schultz and quickly moved alongside Desjarles
for second. After a brief battle, Gaserude cleared for second and
went right to work on Taylor for the top spot. Using the outside
groove once again, Gaserude cleared for the lead on lap 24.
Defending champion Dean Schultz followed in Gaserude's tracks
through the top five and into second, but Gaserude was too strong to
catch as he cruised to the stripe for the win. Schultz was second
with Tim Syvrud, Andy Wendt and Ron Bishofberger rounding out the
top five. Dean Schultz set the pace in time trials with a lap of
13.529 while heat winners included Andy Wendt and Eric Melchior.
Making only his second appearance of the season, Fitchburg's Don
Trush claimed the 30 lap Sportsman feature win. Tiffany Desjarles
and Gerry Junget battled side by side from the front row at the drop
of the green. Desjarles finally claimed the top spot on lap four
when Junget floated high in turn two. This also allowed Trush to
move into second behind Desjarles as Junget slipped into third.
Trush measured up the leader for a few laps and decided on lap eight
to make his
move. Trush went to the outside of Desjarles and cleared for the top
spot on lap ten. Trush began to pull away from the field until
caution on lap 14 erased his advantage. As the green returned, Trush
again shot out to a big lead. Meanwhile, last week's feature winner,
Brandon Riedner, was making his way through the field with his
father, Scott, in tow. The duo sliced through the top five and into
second, and third respectively with ten laps remaining. But the lead
that Trush was enjoying was too large to overcome and he motored to
the checkered flag and the win. Brandon Riedner, Scott Riedner, Jake
Wasserburger and Desjarles completed the top five. Scott Riedner
grabbed quick time with a lap of 14.050 while Junget and Mike
Winters claimed heat race wins.
Making their second visit this season to Columbus 151 Speedway
was the International class. Mark English of Milton managed to
secure the win in the 20 lap feature event. Peter Shelley took the
initial lead on the opening lap with Sean Watters moving into
second. English charged into the top five on lap eight and made
quick work getting to the front. English used the high groove to
move into second on lap ten and alongside the leader two laps later.
English cleared for the
lead just as the caution waved on lap 14 when Shelley spun on the
backstretch. As the green returned, English drove away for the win
with Joe Cross, Rodney Mundt, Jimmie Pankow and Sean Watters
rounding out the top five. English made it a clean sweep by claiming
the heat race win and quick time on the night.
Marshall's Gary Pashley led every lap of the 20 lap Hobby Stock
feature on his way to victory lane with the win. Pashley took
control on the first lap and never looked back as the second
position was swapped throughout the race between several drivers.
Kyle Riedner took his turn early on with Lincoln Keeser in third.
Keeser took over on lap 13 with Andy Raley in tow for second. Two
cautions slowed the field, but never was Pashley challenged for the
lead. As the checkers
flew, it was Pashley out front with Raley, Keeser, Ben Monday and
Dustin Ward finishing in the top five. Larry Moen took top honors in
qualifying with a lap of 15.203 while Keeser claimed the heat race
win.
Brandon Condroski of Cudahy quickly went to the front of the
field to race his way to the win in the 18 lap Bandit feature. Josh
Steckel and Daniel Ellis lead the field to green as the two
competitors battled for the top spot. Condroski started to the
inside of row two, and on lap two, split to the two leaders to take
over the lead. Caution flew on lap three and on the restart,
Condroski rifled out to a comfortable lead. Two more cautions would
slow the field, but each time the top five would break away from the
pack and run single file with Condroski remaining out front. At the
stripe, it was Condroski
for the win followed by Alex Lee, Jimmy Junget, Michael Clapper and
Ed Klug. Clapper took fast time with a lap of 16.278 while heat
winners included Condroski and Jess Watters.
In wild and crazy back up action, Andy Ward of Madison dominated
the 8 lap feature event on his way to the win. Ward grabbed the lead
on the opening lap and never looked back while Jug Her spent the
entire event trying to run the leader down. Lapped traffic couldn't
slow the leader as he charged to the win with Her in second and Ryan
Oetzel third.
