COLUMBUS, WI (Friday, September 09, 2011) Dousman’s Scott Patrick took control on the opening lap and survived several cautions to capture the 50 lap Late Model main event at Columbus 151 Speedway on Friday night. Patrick led every lap en route to picking up his first feature of the season.

Patrick and Nick Nolden led the field to green with Patrick grabbing the lead on lap one. Two early cautions gave Nolden a shot at the early leader on the restarts, but Patrick remained in control each time with Nolden dropping back into second. The leaders raced nose to tail through four yellow flags before the midway point of the race with Patrick continuing to show the way in front of Nolden. The second half of the feature race ran caution free as Patrick stretched his advantage with every passing circuit. At the checkers, it was Patrick with a commanding edge for the win followed by Nolden in second. Luke Hoffman, Brady Liddle and Casey Johnson rounded out the top five.

In Sportsman action, point leader Phil Denikas added to his advantage in the standings after picking up the 25 lap feature event. Dan Gosda grabbed the early lead on lap one from the pole with Ken Hoff riding in second. Denikas moved into the high groove as he began his trek to the front on lap 11. Denikas began picking off positions with Randy Breunig following his every move. The caution waved on lap 17, allowing Denikas to restart outside Hoff with Gosda still on the point. As racing resumed, Denikas charged alongside Gosda looking to steal the top spot. Denikas cleared for the lead on lap 19, bringing Breunig along with him for second. Denikas survived one more caution with two laps remaining to cross the stripe first for the win. Breunig was second followed by Kevin Anderson, Gosda and Hoff.

Kale Peterman of Iron Ridge also aided his own cause in the standings by picking up the 30 Hobby Stock main event and increasing his points lead. Matt Wachuta and Mike Held battled back and forth for the lead as the green waved over the field. Chester Williams joined the duo on lap seven with Wachuta owning a slight advantage for the top spot. A lap later, Wachuta got crossed up on the front stretch collecting Williams and Held and bringing out the caution. Wachuta and Held were finished for the night and Williams was relegated to the rear for the restart with Greg Bowers now showing the way. As racing resumed, Steven Sauer made his move on the outside but washed out in turn four as he dropped back into the pack. This opened the door for Peterman to charge past Bowers and into the lead on lap 20. A caution on lap 23 allowed Sauer to rejoin the fight for the lead, but Peterman held off his advances to capture the checkered flag and the win. Sauer settled for second with Bowers, Andy Raley and Brad Hertzel completing the top five.

Seth Reamer of Columbus picked up the win in the 18 lap Bandit feature event. Jason Clapper took control on lap one from the pole with Jeremy Monday up to second. On lap six, Reamer took to the high side as he began to move to the front. After a quick caution, Reamer charged up to second as he drew even with Clapper for the top spot. Reamer cleared for the lead just before the second caution on lap eight. Once racing resumed, Reamer began to stretch his advantage while Clapper tried to hold on to second. Clapper and Haley Kapp brought out the final caution of the race on lap ten when Clapper made hard contact with the front chute wall. Reamer owned the final eight laps of the race as he cruised to the checkers for the win. Ken Ring finished second followed by Phil Wuesthoff, Mike Storkson and Monday.

John Von Allmen of Madison dominated the 8 lap Back Up feature to get the win. Von Allmen shot into the lead as the green flag waved with George Wachuta in second. Wachuta spent the entire race trying to run Von Allmen down, but Von Allmen stayed strong on the point to see the checkers first. Wachuta settled for second with Andy Ward coming home in third.

The Legends joined the program with Aaron Moyer of Malone flexing his muscle on the way to winning the 25 lap feature event. Moyer and Vince Bartolotta quickly made their way to the front as racing got underway. After an early caution, Moyer made his move to the point, clearing for the lead on lap six. Bartolotta followed into second two laps later, but Moyer was already pulling away from the pack. After two more cautions, Moyer continued to drive away with the lead while Bartolotta encountered heavy pressure for the runner up spot. At the checkers, it was Moyer well out front getting the win with Cory Talaska making a late charge for second.

The 2011 season comes to a close this Sunday, September 11, with season championships. A full racing program will crown the season champions with extended feature laps in all divisions. Time trials begin at 12:30 with the first race at 2pm. Please visit www.columbus151.com for more information.
