COLUMBUS, WI (Friday, August 19, 2011) Lincoln Keeser of Johnson Creek laid claim the Dick Moore Memorial Late Model main event on Friday night at Columbus 151 Speedway. Keeser led all 50 laps from the pole as no other driver could find a way to get past the veteran pilot.
Keeser and Kurt Clapper paced the field to green as they battled door to door on the first lap. Keeser led by a small margin at the line to complete lap one as he cleared for sole possession on the second circuit. Jerry Eckhardt followed into second as Clapper slipped back into the pack. Michael Clapper charged to the outside of Eckhardt as he looked to move up. After contact between Eckhardt and Clapper on lap 26, the first caution waved for debris a lap later. Clapper tried to draw even with the leader as racing resumed, but he couldn’t pull off the maneuver as he fell back to third. The leaders raced single file until the second and final caution waved on lap 39. As racing resumed, Ron Bishofberger spilt the field as he charged into third. Bishofberger drove to the outside of Eckhardt to claim second as he slid up alongside Keeser on the point. Bishofberger began losing grip in the outside groove as he fell back alongside Eckhardt. Bishofberger made one last attempt at a winning pass, but Keeser stayed out front to see the checkers first. Bishofberger finished second followed by Eckhardt, Aaron Wilke and Don Gaserude.
Randy Breunig of Columbus used a late race charge to pull out the win in the 30 lap Sportsman feature event. Rick Coppernoll led lap one with Dan Gosda following into second. Phil Denikas found himself in third on lap two as he looked to move up. Denikas got past Gosda for second a lap later as he began to close in on Coppernoll. Meanwhile, Breunig was slicing his way through the field and into the top five. Breunig made his way to third on lap nine, joining the fight for the lead a lap later. Denikas fired to the outside of Coppernoll as he looked to steal the top spot. Breunig filled the hole as Denikas began to fade. Denikas fell to third allowing Breunig to take his turn on the outside of the early leader. After a caution with ten laps to go, Breunig made his move to the high side of Coppernoll. Breunig drew even on the restart with Denikas watching from third. Coppernoll got into the side of Breunig on lap 25 forcing Breunig to drop back and regroup. As the white flag flew, Breunig mounted a charge to the outside of Coppernoll. Breunig pulled alongside the leader as they raced off into turn three. As they flew past the checkers, Breunig owned a slight advantage to claim the victory. Following post-race inspection, Coppernoll was forced to vacate his second place finish. Denikas was awarded the runner up finish with Kevin Anderson, Collin Tomlinson and Rick Lamberty rounding out the top five.
Kale Peterman of Iron Ridge got the front and ran away with the 30 lap Hobby Stock feature event. Cody Buchs led lap one from the pole with Tony Ciano in tow for second. Ciano got sideways in turn three to force the first of two cautions on lap four. Buchs drifted high entering turn one on the restart allowing Mike Held to shoot past into the lead. Dustin Ward followed into second as he immediately drove to the high side of Held. Ward couldn’t make the move stick as he fell back into the field allowing Peterman to take over the second position. Peterman took his turn on the outside of Held, drawing even on lap 14. Peterman inched into the lead just before the second yellow flag flew on lap 15. Peterman restarted as the leader with Held and Andy Raley battling for second. Peterman drove away from the pack once racing resumed as he cruised to the checkers for the win. Raley came home second followed by Steven Sauer, Held and Greg Bowers.
Mike Storkson of Madison captured the 25 lap feature event for the Bandit division. Craig Tomlinson led early with Bill Kohn and Phil Wuesthoff in tow for second and third respectively. Wuesthoff slipped past Kohn for second on lap two as Storkson entered the top five. After a caution on lap seven, Wuesthoff pulled even with Tomlinson as he continued to inch forward. Wuesthoff claimed the lead just before another caution on lap nine. As racing resumed, Storkson charged alongside Wuesthoff looking to lead. Storkson couldn’t pull off the pass as he dropped back in line behind Wuesthoff. Storkson continued to apply heavy pressure lap after lap until he got a good run under the leader on lap 15. After some contact down the front stretch, Storkson cleared for the lead entering turn one with Jamie Kohn moving up to challenge for second. Storkson raced through lapped traffic to see the checkers first for the win. Kohn finished second followed by Wuesthoff, Tomlinson and Jeremy Bredesen.
John Von Allmen dominated all 8 laps of the Back Up feature en route to claiming the win. Von Allmen fired into the lead at the drop of the green. Matt Wachuta surrendered the second position on lap three when he spun to the infield. George Wachuta did the same a lap later as Von Allmen enjoyed a large lead. Dustin Von Allmen claimed second, but John Von Allmen was well on his way to the victory. Dustin Von Allmen came home second with Andy Ward finishing third.
